Pequot North League Title and a Thanksgiving Victory

Some day in the future, the Coventry Patriots and the Ellington Knights will thaw out. But not any time soon.

The two teams met again Wed. night for The Annual Thanksgiving Day Classic. Faced with whipping winds, sheets of rain and freezing temperatures, the teams provided, the equally brave fans, with an entertaining holiday game. Behind subperb blocking by the offensive line, the running of Mark Hickman, Chris Schneider, Joe Leslie and Jeremiah Mason, the Knights built a 40 to 0 lead. Among the many highlites was a sixty yard touchdown run by Hickman and a 30 yard interception return for a touch down by Danny Hayes.

The Knights defense, anchored by seniors Bahler, Casciano, McKillop, Printy and Schneider were stellar, a swarming mass of defenders that held Coventry scoreless for three quarters. Down by a large margin the Patriots gave their fans something to remember on this cold night scoring two touchdowns in less than two minutes time including a perfectly executed insides kick, but it was to little to late. Finale score was 40 to 12 in the Knights favor.

As the fans and the band filed out, the Ellington Knights stood huddled at midfield with the gleaming golden classic football trophy held up high by all the players, none of whom were aware of the blistering wind, the freezing cold or the steady rain. After a quick drive back to Ellington high, well into the night, the knights fired their victory cannon to signify winning of the Pequot North League title, a Thanksgiving victory, and the end to another winning season of Knights football.
Let the thawing process begin.
