It’s Class M vs. Class L and the Title is Likely on the Line

Saturday brings the battle of the Pequot Uncas League’s undefeated teams. This is high school football....

It was bound to happen, both teams had circled the game when the schedules first came out.

Saturday brings the battle of the Pequot uncas league’s undefeated teams. The Ellington Knights rated number one in Class M visit Avon High School rated number seven in Class L.

Avon features a high powered offensive attack and strong defense. Colin Moore leads the state in rushing and averages more than 250 yards per game. The Ellington defense has allowed the fewest points in the league this season. Something has to give.

Ellington presents a varied offense with skilled wide receivers and the running of Neal Janiga and a host of other backs. Avon counters with the league’s second stingiest defense.

This contest will give the winner a clear shot at the Pequot Uncas division title while both teams appear to be headed for state tournament selection. But that doesn’t lessen each teams desire to win.

Days of film study and practice in the mud are coming to an end. When kick off time arrives, the age old question of can defense stop offense will be answered.

Avon looks to avenge last year's bitter 14-5 defeat. Ellington hopes to keep the longest regular season win streak in the state alive. That streak stands at 22 consecutive games.

Game time is at 1 p.m. at Avon High School in Avon, CT. It promises to be one of the premiere match ups of the day if not of the season. It’s CLASS M vs. CLASS L and the title is likely on the line. You don’t want to miss this game.
