Ellington/Somers Football Boosters Annual Comedy Night March 2, 2013

It is a great time every year, do not miss it.

To all Past, Present & Future Parents and Fans of Ellington/Somers Football Players

Though it has been two months since the last play of the 2012 season, the
post season work that goes on each year is already in full motion. The
Booster Club is busy working on things large and small. The issue of lights

for the football field is still a hot topic and one that we are
continuously working on. In the near future we will be holding meetings
with the administration to better assess the feasibility of doing this
critical project.

Pay to play is also a very important issue. Not so many years ago it cost
each player $600 to play football for the Knights. Much has changed since
those days. Ellington players pay only their athletic fee and Somers
Players received rebates on their $250 payment this year. This was possible
because of the fund raising efforts of the Boosters and the increased
attendance at games. The Boosters have upgraded equipment, incorporated the
local volunteer fire department into our games in a dramatic way, we have
invested in game costumes, cannons, team banners and we have completed a
comprehensive upgrade in the concession standand a new sound system is
being ordered. All designed to create a better game day experience for
players and fans.

In order to continue doing these things we need to raise funds right now.
The do or die fundraising event for the Boosters is as it has always been,
The Annual Comedy Night. This years event is March 2, 2013 at the TKB Club in Rockville, CT. The price for this event is $25 and light appetizers
will be served at this BYOB event. Starting time is 7pm for door opening
and 8pm for the first of three acts.

It is a great time every year, do not miss it.

We need every parent to come to this event in order to make ends meet each
season. If every parent purchased a ticket we would still need to sell over
180 additional tickets. Therefore we are not only asking each parent to
purchase a ticket, but to entice a friend to do the same. This will greatly
impact the possibility of a successful event .

The Boosters consists of 6-7 people. We need help in that area as well. We
have 65 football players and 7 active parents, yet we put on what WFSB has
called the “the best visual show in the state”. With your help it will only
get better and this is the year to get involved. This upcoming season we will
host Avon, Gilbert, Canton, Windsor Locks, and Granby. We are planning some
pretty exciting events. Please buy your tickets and join the Boosters at The
Annual Comedy Night, but more importantly-  BEAT AVON

I believe in the concept of charter schools. Saw some very good ones in inner cities that workedRead More very hard and made some progress. But I thinks for every charter school that opens a failing public school should close. Why perpetuate failure?

How long will we throw money at a problem that stems from the home and societal policies promotedRead More over the years? How many years and how much money is needed to fix the fact that so many children are growing up in households without fathers? If we give the schools all the money they want, will it fix the problem? I think not. It is not a school issue. It is a decaying society issue. I'm glad I'm old.

Penny, glad to see some (albeit few) smart people are working in Hartford for the people and notRead More just for their political careers! Since the large majority don't pay attention, it is important that we continue to educate people on what our representatives are doing in Hartford. Keep up the good work, and thanks for taking the time to write this article.
