Somers to See Significant Progress by End of Monday

The numbers still don't look great, but progress is being made.

While CL&P is reporting that 47 percent of Somers residents are still without power – up from 41 percent earlier in the day – significant progress should be seen by the end of the day on Monday.

First Selectwoman Lisa Pellegrini said that this morning there were 23 crews in town and that 26 more would be arriving during the day. She said that the priority is the Hall Hill Road area and also the Turnpike Road area.

“There is just so much damage,” she said. “I just can’t communicate how much damage there is. We are diligently trying. We’re working on it; those are our priorities. Hopefully we’ll see something by this evening. They worked in the night, they were here first thing in the morning, there’s just so much damage. It’s absolutely incredible. Unfortunately it’s just taking some time. Once we get this, we’re going to have big lights that go on.”

On Monday, the shelter at Somers High School was closed.

“At this point there is nobody at the shelter so at this point it has been closed,” Pellegrini said. “If the shelter needs to reopen, we’re prepared to reopen. But at this point, it looks like nobody needs it.”

For people still needing showers, will be open from 4:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. Pellegrini said that the shower location is being moved so as not to interfere with after school sports at the high school.
