Safe Water, a Spaghetti Dinner and Knitting for Cancer

1. According to Weather.com, the forecast for Ellington and Somers calls for a high of 44ºF under partly cloudy skies. The overnight low will be 26ºF and mostly clear.

2. Worried about radiation levels in Connecticut rainwater rainwater? Don't be. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy issued a press release Monday to assure Nutmeg state residents that the DEP routinely tests rainwater in the state, and that radiation levels remain in the range that is normally seen. “There have been a number of reports in the news about low levels of radiation found elsewhere in the country as a result of Japan’s earthquake and subsequent tsunami and its effect on nuclear power plants there,” Malloy said in a news release. “But at this point, our routine testing shows no concern for public health. Even in other states where trace amounts of radiation have been detected, it’s not at levels high enough to impact health and welfare. We will continue to be aware and alert while monitoring the situation.”

3. Are you hungry for a good old-fashioned spaghetti supper? Well the Somers Cooperative Preschool on Main Street will be happy to cure that craving, for a small fee, of course. The its annual ALL YOU CAN EAT spaghetti dinner in the Foundation Room at the Somers Congregational Church. The proceeds go toward projects and events that the group helps to fund. Two dinner seatings available: 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults, $4 for children younger than 6. Take out dinners are also available. 4. Come down to the Somers Senior Center any Tuesday morning for . Starting at 8 a.m. and lasting one hour, it's a great way to start your day, meet friends old and new, catch up on news and more. Donuts are courtesy of the Whole Donut in Hazardville and coffee is by the Senior Citizens' Club. Call the center in advance to be sure they're open, in cases of bad weather, holidays, etc. 860-763-4379.

5. The American Cancer Society is in continual need of prayer shawls and hats for cancer patients. Good thing the meets each month to knit or crochet prayer shawls, scarves and lap robes!
