1. 

Find out what's happening in Ellington-Somerswith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Where/When: Ben Muzio Town House, Saturday, Feb. 19 from 10 a.m. until noon.

Why Go: Artist Althea Freemer will introduce and demonstrate one of the newest decorative painting skills at the workshop. Learn this simple, yet fun acrylic painting technique in a very short time. You will go home with a finished product and the knowledge to apply this artistic process to future projects.

Where/When: Hartford Funny Bone, Manchester from Thursday, Feb. 17 until Sunday, Feb. 20. The Thursday show is at 7:30 p.m. Shows are held on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. The Sunday show is at 7 p.m.

Why Go: Brooklyn Native, Dwayne Perkins has appeared on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Late Late Show, Premium Blend and his very own Comedy Central Presents half hour special. Dinner is available with each show.

Pricing: The Thursday and Sunday shows are $15. The Friday and Saturday shows are $17.

3. Vicious Valentines - An Evening of Love-ly One Acts          

Where/When: Mapleton Hall, Suffield on Friday, Feb. 18 and Saturday, Feb. 19 at 8 p.m. and on Sunday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m.

Why Go: It will be an evening of lighthearted looks at three different stages of love — betrothal, routine married life, and “second chances.” Each play presents a couple in a comical crisis.

Pricing: Tickets for adults are $17 and tickets for seniors and students are $15.

4. First Company Governor’s Foot Guard Athletic Association Dog Show and Obedience Trials

Where/When: XL Center, Hartford on Sunday, Feb. 20. Gates open at 8 a.m. and judging begins at 8:30 a.m.

Why Go: This is the 80th edition of this annual event. Visitors to the show not only get to watch the competition but they can go ‘backstage’ to meet the dogs and their owners/handlers. Some of the proceeds of the show are used to fund scholarships awarded each year to two pre-veterinary students at the University of Connecticut.

Pricing: Admission for adults is $8, senior citizens and military personnel (with ID) are $5, and children under 12 are free.

5. Rascal Flatts Live            

Where/When: Mohegan Sun Casino, Uncasville on Friday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m.

Why Go: They group has had eleven No. 1 singles since the launch of their career and have more titles in Billboard's Top 100 Songs of the Decade than any other group in the Country format.

Pricing: Tickets range from $85 to $115.
