1. YWCA Camp Aya-Po

Camp Aya-Po in Somers offers multiple sessions featuring new and traditional camp activities for boys and girls from age 5 to age 15, including a counselor in training program for older kids. Four of the five two-week sessions offer an overnight option as well. Contact the YWCA of the Hartford Region for more information.

2. Indian Valley Family YMCA

The new facility on Pinney Street in Ellington offers a variety of options for day and overnight camps in the region and northeastern section of the state. 

3. YMCA Camp Yankee Trails

Described as "not just a camp," but "an adventure," this camp for 6-13 year olds will not only keep them occupied, but keep them having fun, too.

4. Ellington 2011 Summer Day Camp

The Parks and Recreation Department-run summer camp is for 4-12 years olds and offers multi-week sessions and flexible hours. The weekly themes range from spirit to Dr. Seuss to nature and underwater. Registration is required. Older children may be eligible to work in the camper-to-counselor program. 5. Northwest Park Summer Camp, Windsor

Northwest Park offers a summer camp experience focused on nature, with multiple one-week programs running from the end of June through the end of July. The camp features science, farming and nature education activities in an active, outdoor environment. Campers from kindergarteners to 8th graders are welcome.
