Governor: Take it Slow

Another storm headed to Connecticut with a mixture or precipitation.

Mother Nature is again taking the stage in north central Connecticut's weather theater and this time around, it's looking like a real variety show.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has a message for residents. You may not like the show, but watch its every act.

''It's winter in Connecticut, so while we are dealing with excess snow right now from last week's storm, we have yet another one right on our doorstep,'' Malloy said. ''Tomorrow's commute will be a sloppy mess, so I'm urging people to take it slow, drive carefully and be aware of any icing that may occur.''

The National Weather Service says there is a 60 percent chance of precipitation during the dark hours, mainly after 5 a.m. Temperatures are expected to remain low at 11 degrees overnight. Less than a half-inch of snow is possible.

Snow and sleet are forecast until 4 p.m. tomorrow and then rain and snow could mix together through the night. Total accumulations tomorrow could reach 5 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

Malloy spoke with key commissioners today in anticipation of the storm. Malloy and public safety officials warned of potential power outages and asked residents to clear any flat surfaces, particularly roves, of any accumulated snow.

They said the mixture could make whatever snow is lying around quite heavy.

''Please alert the authorities if you see any drooping power lines,'' Malloy urged residents in a statement. ''This isn't an anomaly in our state, but we still need to be aware and take precautions.''

As of 10 p.m., Malloy had not called for any late openings or staggered arrivals for state employees.

The state Department of Transportation has been routinely treating roads prior to any winter precipitation.

The Bradley International Airport operations staff anticipated no nighttime delays.
