Ellington, Somers Schools Closing Early

The National Weather Service says the snow will accumulate early Monday afternoon before turning to freezing rain in the evening.

The commute home to Ellington and Somers on Monday evening could be a messy one, and both the Ellington and Somers public schools will be dismissing early.

There will be no afternoon kindergarten in either town.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory forecasting that we'll get up to two inches of snow this the afternoon, starting at around noon, before turning over to freezing rain at around 4 p.m.

The chance for snow is 90 percent, according to the weather service. Rain is expected to be in the area through Thursday.

The good news is that temperatures are climbing back from the arctic blast that set in during the past week. Temperatures will break the freezing point on Tuesday, with a high of 44ºF predicted. The low expected is 32ºF. By Wednesday the temperature will creep into the 50s.
