According to Images of America: Somers, from the Somers Historical Society:

"In the 1930s and later, Shady Lake was a popular recreational swimming and picnic area with bathouses, picnic tables, snack bar, and other buildings. It is owned by the Romanos, who found it necessary to close it down because of the high cost of liability insurance. The pond is still beautiful, but the area is overgrown and the buildings are gone. One hopes the area will find a new use."
