According to Images of America: Ellington, from the Ellington Historical Society:

"J.D. and Mary McKnight are pictured here in front of the family homestead in the Sadds Mill section of Ellington c. 1900. J.D. was the great-grandson of John McKnight, who emigrated to America from Scotland in 1731. Of the five children born to James and Mary, the youngest, Howard Horace McKnight took over the family dairy farm. One of Howard's and his wife Clara's children was Nellie McKnight, town librarian and historian."
