Coventry Farmers' Market to Stay at Hale Homestead

The market and town of Coventry have signed a ten-year agreement with Connecticut Landmarks.

The Coventry Regional Farmers' Market will be spending the summers at the Nathan Hale Homestead for the next ten years, according to a press release from the state Department of Agriculture.

In the new deal with Connecticut Landmarks, the town of Coventry will act as a tenant of the homestead, which the market will sub-lease from the town.

The market's lease renewal  due to liability and expense concerns, according to the release. Insurance costs and liability concerns have decreased under the new agreement, allowing the market to use the additional savings for rent, the release said.

"This is excellent news for the residents of Coventry and the farmers market," said state Agriculture Commissioner Steven K. Reviczky in the press release. "I commend the Town of Coventry and the farmer's market for their work to ensure this great Connecticut tradition was not lost, and I thank Governor Malloy for getting the parties talking again. Connecticut has a rich agricultural history, one that we want to encourage and expand."
