The caption in the Images of America: Ellington reads:

"J. Henry McCray was born in Ellington in 1855. After his marriage to Minnie Hare in 1885, he moved to Rockville, where he worked for Belding Brothers and Company in their silk mill. He resigned his position in 1902 to devote his time to architectural work. Among the many buildings he designed were Center School and he Ellington Town Hall, pictured here in this postcard view."
