What Business Should Go Here?

The vacancy sits on Main Street in Ellington.

Each week we'll present a new vacant building and ask you to tell us what you think would be the best use.

Forget what zone it's in, ignore setback regulations, dump lot coverage rules and all the other zoning jargon that puts most people to sleep.

If you had your way, what would you like to see there? What would be the best use for the community?

Today's vacant building is on Main Street in Ellington. It's in the plaza between and . It was previously the Creative Playhouse, and several years ago, it was Camryn's Cafe.

A few people have commented on the Facebook post for this story and left suggestions. A few of the ideas are: Starbucks, a good coffeehouse, and a bagel shop.

There's also been the suggestion for an ice cream shop or an accountant/tax preparation firm.

Do people not realize that the 'Chain' stores are an afront to what we want in our town? Starbuck's? Seriously? Do you not understand that the majority of 'Empty Boxes' are the result of the chains closing and moving their business to more populated areas? Local, FAMILY-OWNED business is what our community needs. Businesses that are directly responsible to their customers, not franchises that have their headquarters in New York or Mumbai.
