Verizon Expanding 4G Network

Most towns in north central Connecticut will get the upgrade on Thursday.

In March, Verizon announced an extensive plan to spread its '''' network to more than 40 towns in the state by the end of the year. 

It has targeted 24 more towns for a Thursday launch, including several in north central Connecticut, company officials said in a news release. 

Towns on the launch list include: 

  • East Windsor
  • Enfield
  • Manchester
  • Mansfield
  • Suffield 
  • Tolland
  • Vernon
  • Windsor
  • Windsor Locks

It also includes several from outside the region.

  • Berlin
  • Bloomfield
  • Cromwell
  • East Hartford
  • Farmington
  • Hartford
  • Middletown
  • New Britain
  • Rocky Hill
  • South Windsor
  • Southington
  • Stafford
  • West Hartford
  • Wethersfield
  • Willington

Nationwide, metropolitan areas with 4G technology should total 145, according to the Verizon newsrelease. 

The network is 10 times faster than the current 3G network, according to the release. 

Verizon Wireless officials said the company has invested more than $2.8 billion into its New England network since 2000, including more than $242 million in 2010 alone.
