New Business Association Coming to Somers

The mission of the association is to strengthen and support the Somers business community.

Pretty soon, businesses in Somers will be able to join an association where business and community partner.

The mission of the “Somers Business and Professional Association” is to strengthen and support the Somers business community through networking events, business awareness, interactive community programs, and retail happenings.

The goals are to create monthly programs that will provide better exposure to the local businesses. Some of these programs include business after hour events, retail programs, community events, business to business events and programs, group advertising opportunities, value added networking, and professional development and shared experiences.

There will be the development of a Web site, a Facebook page, links and shared experiences, and workshops.

A small fee to join will be in place, but the events will all be free of charge to members.

The association will act as a steering committee to assist the Economic Development Commission to better serve the business community. The Steering Committee will be made up of four to six business community members, including at least one EDC member, who will share updates to the EDC. The Steering Committee will meet regularly to program events with welcome input from all community members.

So far, the steering committee consists of Vicki Clark, owner of Connecticut Commercial Realty & Select Homes; Susan Conte, owner of LUXE Beauty and Brows; Jen Kiner, personal lines sales representative for Howland and Sargent, Sarah Martin, professional job coach of One 2 Achieve; and Sandra Calvo-Rouette, owner of oneTribe.

Clark says that the committee welcomes the input, ideas and suggestions of all, and are seeking at least one or two more local community members who have the time and desire to work on building this association into a strong part of the business culture in Somers.

For information or questions, please contact Clark at 860-851-9644.
