Fireworks Cap Memorable Fourth of July Town Celebration

Hartford Symphony Orchestra performed its annual concert prior to the fireworks spectacular.

Thousands of spectators filled every square inch of the Enfield Town Green Sunday night to watch a spectacular fireworks display that capped off the 27th annual Enfield Fourth of July Town Celebration.

Prior to the pyrotechnics came a stirring performance by the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Carolyn Kuan.

"Sunday was a very good day - a ton of people came out for the fireworks," said Celebration chairman Scott Kaupin. "We've had a lot of great feedback on the fireworks and the symphony."

The two traditional festival-closing events concluded a full day that included numerous demonstrations and activities.

"The police K-9 demonstration had a lot of people watching," Kaupin said. "The kid's activity area was full all day long, too. We moved the Maximum Velocity BMX bike riders to North Main Street, and about 3,000 people saw their last performance."

Despite a steady rain that kept attendance down Friday night, Kaupin said the festival went off without a hitch.

"Overall we'll do fine," he said. "We more than made up for the Friday rain on Saturday, and Sunday was on a par with last year. We'll be able to invest back into the community."
