Raccoon Tests Positive For Rabies in Somers

Animal Control reminds residents that it is state law to vaccinate your pets, regardless of whether or not they are allowed outside.

Somers Animal Control has been notified that a raccoon it sent to the state lab has tested positive for rabies.

On Thursday, Somers Animal Control Officer Eric Boucher responded to a call for a raccoon acting strangely in a backyard of a home by Main and Battle streets. There were domestic animals present and it is unsure if there was direct contact between any of the animals.

The raccoon was euthanized and Animal Control brought it to the state lab for rabies testing. The lab then notified that the raccoon had in fact tested positive for rabies.
