Free Donut on National Donut Day

Residents can get a free donut with any drink purchase at the local Dunkin' Donuts.

Friday is National Donut Day. Luckily, Ellington and Somers residents can get in on the celebration of this doughy delight.

Today, participating Dunkin’ Donuts nationwide will offer guests a free donut of their choice (while supplies last) with the purchase of a beverage (excluding bottled cooler beverages).

The Huffington Post reports that National Donut Day was originally established by the Salvation Army to honor women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.

In honor of the sugary "holiday," The Huffington Post compiled a few interesting statistics on the nation's fondness for the fried fritter.

While Ellington residents may have to travel outside the town borders, Somers residents may stop by the Dunkin' Donuts on South Rd., who has confirmed its participation.
