Oct. 4 marks the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, the popular Catholic medieval saint who is one of the most revered in church history.
But while St. Francis was known for his devotion, humility and love for fellow man, he is also remembered for another reason: being the patron saint of animals.
And to honor the occasion churches across Connecticut, the country and the world will continue the annual tradition known as the"blessing of the animals" ceremonies, including right here in Ellington and nearby Rockville.
Here are the details:
St. Luke's Church, 141 Maple St., Ellington. Saturday Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. The blessing will be happening near the statue of St. Francis, located near the church parking lot.
