Cooling Centers Open

Cooling centers in Ellington and Somers are open to those in need of a cool place to go.

The and are available to citizens to escape the heat this week.

The Senior Center is open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. and is fully air-conditioned. If anyone should have questions, or know of someone who may benefit from visiting the Senior Center, please do not hesitate to contact Jenifer Charette at the Senior Center at 860-749-7160. 

The library is open until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and until 5 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, the library is open from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. If you have any questions, please contact Francine Aloisa at the library at 860-763-3501.

In Ellington, the and are cooling centers. These centers will be open through Friday.

According to Weather.com, the temperature on Thursday will reach 96 degrees, 98 degrees on Friday, and 94 degrees on Saturday. There is an excessive heat watch in effect for Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon. There is also a heat advisory in effect from noon through 8 p.m. on Thursday. An air quality alert is in effect from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. on Thursday.
