Chamber Treasures and Trinkets Event on Tap for Next Month

Chamber has assembled experts to assess the worth of all that old stuff.

Ever wonder if that chair was once owned by King Louis XIV from France or Louis King 4th of  French Creek, N.Y.?

How about that painting bought at the tag sale for 50 cents in 1987? Is is a masterpiece or something someone did by numbers?

How about that collection of figurines?

Have a lot of old gold jewelry and keep putting off a trip to Good Ole What's His Name to get its worth appraised?

Well, the Tolland County Chamber of Commerce is ready and waiting.

At least it will be next month at its second-annual Treasures or Trinkets event.

The event, which features appraisals, tag sales and a flea market, is scheduled for Saturday, Sept., 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tolland County Agricultural Center, 24 Hyde Ave. (Route 30), in Vernon.

Indoor and outdoor space is still available. Reservations can be made via e-mail -tccc@tollandcountychamber.org - or by calling 860-872-0587. Chamber Executive Director Candice Corcione said that in addition to the traditional craft and vendor booths, organizations can use the event as a way to make money.

"For example, an organization could sponsor a face painting booth, which could be a great fund-raiser," she said.

The highlight of the event will be an opportunity to have those treasures and trinkets evaluated by experts. The cost will be $10 for each item.

The appraisers on hand will include:
