Somers Bond Tax Increase

Somers has enjoyed a favorable mill rate for quite some time.  While SOmers can't be compared to other towns that offer more services, it is still a great advantage to residents.   This may soon be coming to an end.  It seems some people feel the town credit card is not maxed out so we should find projects to request a bond for. A low interest rate is not a resaon for increaased spending.  A bond is NOT free money, as some people try to make it sound like.  Think of a bond as a long term offset to out yearly expenses in town.  Our base expense is our current bonds, with a 10 to 20 year term on which our yearly operating expenses ride on top of if you were to provide an accurate graph. The Senior Center van is long overdue to be replaced.  That should not be a bond item, but desperately needs to be replaced.
When you vote on Tuesday, think about the 20 year effect of your vote.  Please vote NO.  Keep out tax rate low.
