ELLINGTON & SOMERS RESIDENTS INVITED TO HIGH HOLY DAYS AT CONGREGATION BETH AHM

Ellington and Somers-area Jews who do not belong to any synagogue are invited to worship during the High Holy Days at Congregation Beth Ahm at 362 Palisado Ave. (Route 159) in Windsor, Conn. The 62-year-old Modern Conservative congregation welcomes interfaith families and offers the free tickets to non-members who are not affiliated with another Jewish synagogue or temple. Many synagogues don’t even permit non-members to attend and, if they do, charge admission. People MUST CALL for High Holy Days tickets at (860) 242-6542.

“We want people to feel welcome and comfortable, and encourage members of the Greater Hartford Jewish community searching for spiritual fulfillment to discover our family-like congregation, and learn about the High Holy Day themes of emotional and spiritual renewal,” explains Rabbi Alan Lefkowitz, who has led Congregation Beth Ahm for more than a decade. “Our practice of providing free High Holy Days tickets to members and extending the invitation to the community has been a long-standing tradition for us.”

Much of the services are in English and members of the congregation and the community participate in readings. This year, Rosh Hashana begins on Wednesday evening, September 4 and continues through Yom Kippur, which ends at sunset on Saturday, September 14.

Congregation Beth Ahm was created by 16 families in 1951 and initially was known as The Jewish Community of Greater Windsor. In September 1960, it opened its doors in a newly built synagogue on 362 Palisado Avenue. Today, the congregation’s members live throughout Greater Hartford. Its religious school offers small classroom religious school for children as young as age 4, through Bar and Bat Mitzvah studies, through adult education
