Due to the snow storm, the Ellington Public Schools are closed today.
The and are also closed. The in Somers are also closed and there is a parking ban in place. The is also closed.
The Somers were closed yesterday, as were the , the , and the Kibbe Fuller Center.
In Ellington there will be no trash pick up on Wednesday. Trash collection for this day will be delayed one day to Thursday, Thursday's pickup will be delayed one day to Friday, and Friday's pickup will be delayed one day to Saturday. Regular pickup schedules will resume on Monday, January 17. Please call the Public Works Department at 860-870-3140 if you have any questions.
Both Ellington and Somers are prepared to open their emergency shelters if need be. Ellington First Selectman Maurice Blanchette says that according to all predictions, the storm doesn't appear to be bringing the kind of weather that will result in downed power lines. The loss of power would be the biggest factor in opening the shelters he said.
Somers First Selectwoman Lisa Pellegrini said that if anyone sees downed power lines, they are to call 911 to report it.
Pellegrini is encouraging residents to stay off the roads if possible and allow the to do their job.
