9 Applicants for Ellington Town Planner, Flags Fly at Half-Staff After Navy Yard Shooting

Good morning Ellington and Somers! Here is some news to start your day off.

  1. Nine people have applied for the position of town planner in Ellington, and five of those applicants will be interviewed by a group of town officials on Oct. 2, First Selectman Maurice Blanchette told the Board of Selectmen Monday evening. Blanchette said he hopes to bring a candidate before the board on Oct. 21.

  2. Gov. Dannel Malloy has ordered all flags to fly at half-staff in honor of the victims of the Navy Yard shooting in Washington, D.C. “On behalf of the people of Connecticut, we offer our deepest condolences and will keep the victims of this senseless tragedy in our thoughts and prayers.” Read more of his statement here.

  5. WEATHER: Brrrr was it chilly this morning. And it's only going to hit a high of 63 degrees today (fall does feel like it's here). Expect a low of 39 degrees tonight.
