Letter: Support School Renovations

Ellington parent Cecilia Fitzgerald expresses her support for the proposed school project.

Ellington school renovations are needed. Please vote on Tuesday, February 14 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Ellington High School.

I attended Crystal Lake School from 1975-1981. I remember sitting amongst drying art projects as we ate lunch, because there was no dedicated art space.Ellington was growing then and continues to do so.

Now as a parent with a child in the Ellington schools, I have seen first hand the effect that over crowding is having. Children sitting on the floor in a hallway crouched over their writing. Extremely large class sizes of 26 students are not healthy for social dynamics. All children in Ellington deserve to have the space to learn.

Important to mention also is that the renovated Crystal Lake School would be a shelter in emergencies, available to all citizens.

I urge Ellington residents to take the next step and learn more about the challenges our school district is facing by visiting http://www.willettsurvey.org/PassTheFeb14Ref.

I also encourage Ellington Residents to get out and VOTE, Tuesday, February 14 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Ellington High School, in favor of the proposed school building project.

The administrators, teachers, and staff need OUR help to continue their mission of serving the children of this wonderful town.

Thank you.

Cecilia Fitzgerald, Ellington School Parent
