Just Breathe Connecticut Moves to Somers and Expands Services

Additional providers have been added at the center and it has expanded from a traditional counseling center into an overall center for well-being.

Recently relocating to Somers, Just Breathe Connecticut has expanded from a traditional counseling center into an overall center for well-being.

Founder and owner Kerry Tuttle established Just Breathe in Enfield in 2010, and has always provided play therapy for children, individual therapy for adolescents and adults, couples therapy, and family therapy. She is also a certified mediator and provides divorce and family mediation.

With the move to Somers in January, she has added additional providers and now offers music therapy, reiki, guided meditation, and energy healing.

Tuttle said that her current passion is exploring the use of animal assisted therapy in private practice psychotherapy.

“I have been providing equine assisted psychotherapy for about three years,” she said. “Hanna, my 1-year-old German Shepherd, is in training to become a certified therapy dog for Just Breathe. I firmly believe in the strong healing connection between animal and human.”

According to Tuttle, she is very proud to have accomplished her vision of creating a center for mind, body, and spirit.

“Somers is an incredible community and I knew without a doubt this is where I should establish the center,” she said. “I love my adopted hometown and have always been very active volunteering in the schools, town government, and community. Just Breathe’s mission is to improve the lives of our clients and the local community – one breath at a time.”

Tuttle said that she has a strong commitment to the world of advocacy and non-profits and counts being a founding director and past president of Manewaves Therapeutic Riding Center (a local nonprofit therapeutic riding center for children with special needs), being a founding director and former membership chair of Hopeful Parents (a national grassroots movement of parents of children with special needs), and founding and currently acting as team leader of Food Allergy Support Team of Connecticut (a support group for parents of children with food allergies) as some of her greatest achievements in this area.

Tuttle is originally from Fairfield but relocated to Somers in 2002 to work as a clinician in the prisons. She received her Bachelor in Social Work from Sacred Heart University and her Master’s in Social Work from Fordham University. Tuttle has previous experience working in the federal prison system, the state prison system, at an emergency mobile psychiatric services clinic for children, and in a large medical.

“I have known I wanted to be a social worker since I was a small child,” she said. “I knew I needed to make a difference in other’s lives in order for my life to have great worth.”

When she’s not working, Tuttle can be found enjoying her family – her two inspiring elementary-aged children who keep her laughing, her supportive husband who assists her in chasing her dreams, her cat Nola who calms her and keeps her grounded, and her puppy Hanna who keeps her running.
